From New York State to the Emerald Coast

January 20, 2018

New York has come to Destin. Living along the Emerald Coast, I know there are certain beers that I can't buy in my local stores. No biggie. It's just something that you have to understand.

But that's where the beauty of the beer community comes into play. While I like to focus my attention on locally produced beers, and share what's happening in along the Emerald Coast, I also appreciate brews from all over the globe. Part of what I aim to do is share beer with people. Give them some insight into brews that I've tried, whether local, regional or nationwide.

As an avid Instagrammer, it's awesome to connect with other beer lovers from around the country. It's really cool to see what they are drinking, how they share their passion for beer and the amazing images they share. From young to old, male and female, Instagram is full of some talented folks who are incredibly knowledgeable about craft beer.

Giveaways are a big part of the Instagram game, so there's plenty of opportunities to try and score some brews from other parts of the country, which is exactly what I was able to do. In the past year, I've probably entered 50-plus giveaways easily, but have never won.

That was until recently, when I scored four brews from New York, courtesy of Patrick over at the Benedict Beer Blog (@benedictbeerblog), as part of his 2K Celebration. I'd be celebrating if I had 2,000 followers on Instagram as well, but that will come later.

So, what did I score?

First up is the Oops! I Mangoed My Pants from Sand City Brewing Co., an IPA weighing in at 7.5% ABV. The Orange You Glad We Brewed An IPA, a New England Style IPA with Blood Orange and Grapefruit comes from  Destination Unknown Beer Co. and Big aLICe Brewing Co. (8% ABV). The last two brews come from Singlecut Beersmiths. In And Around The Lake is a three-times dry hopped IPA with honey (8% ABV and 118 IBU), while Cold Fire is a double dry hopped IIPA (8.2% ABV and 126 IBU).

These beauties are destined for a little time in the fridge before I crack them open. If you can't get to another state to try their brews, you can always connect with great folks on social media and enter giveaways or get into the beer trading market. Either way, you'll meet some great folks and enjoy some awesome brews.
