Idyll Hounds Brewing Company was named one of the fastest growing small and independent craft breweries by the Brewers Association (BA) — the not-for-profit trade group representing small and independent craft brewers.
The inaugural list offered insight into the diversity of growth within the craft brewing industry.
“We are beyond excited and honored to be among some of the fastest growing young breweries in the business. We would like to give a huge thank you to the many people who continue to support our business and drink our beers," said Warren Bondi, sales and marketing, Idyll Hounds Brewing Company. "Without them we would not be on this strong growth path.”
Idyll Hounds, located in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, was ranked 4th among 50 of the fastest growing small and independent breweries from across 25 states. Median growth from 2016 to 2017 for these breweries was 216 percent; the median size of breweries on the list went from 284 barrels in 2016 to 963 barrels in 2017.
These brewing companies represent 5.5 percent of craft’s growth by volume for 2017 and include eight brewpubs, 40 microbreweries and two regional craft breweries.
“With 5 percent growth overall for small and independent brewers in 2017— and microbreweries and brewpubs delivering the majority of that — we wanted to spotlight some of the breweries driving that growth,” said Bart Watson, chief economist, Brewers Association. “As the growth base for craft becomes more diffuse, these fast growing brewing companies illustrate that a diverse set of success stories still exist.”
Idyll Hounds owner and head brewer Fraiser Hansen was thankful for those who have helped and supported the brewery since opening.
"We have a killer crew with some of the best supporters around," he said. "Without both of those things we wouldn't be where we are today. We are just getting started so keep your eyes, ears and palates ready for much more from Idyll Hounds!"
Methodology: The list presented includes only small and independent breweries with all of their production at their own facilities. Breweries had to have opened 12/31/2015 or earlier to be considered. It only includes breweries that reported to the Brewers Association’s annual Beer Industry Production Survey; breweries with staff estimates or data from state excise tax reports were not considered. Finally, breweries must have had data from at least three years to be considered.

Hansen, also known as "The Pup," knew for a while that it was the brewery life for him. He was an avid and persistent home brewer, always trying to up his brewing game. He grew up spending summers on the beach in South Walton, Florida.
One particular seasonal job at The Summer Kitchen, turned into a year. Working together with a few friends and the support of his family, Frasier pushed forward to open up Idyll Hounds Brewing Company.
Idyll Hounds is inspired by the beautiful “idyllic” scenery and to pay a loving homage to Mike “Hound” Hansen, who always inspired the Pup to follow his dream of starting a brewery.
Idyll Hounds hopes to share a creative collection of quality beers with anyone willing to try something new from the Panhandle all the way up through Birmingham, Alabama. Idyll is also working on distribution into more eastern markets such as Tallahassee and Atlanta.
